Hamlin Sports Complex
Springfield, OR
Review by Mike
The Hamlin Sports Complex is the home of the Springfield Drifters of the West Coast League and the Bushnell University Beacons of the NCAA Cascade Collegiate Conference. The ballpark is on the campus of Hamlin Middle School, oddly enough. I’ve rarely seen a middle school with such a wide range of sports facilities, but perhaps these are also community fields as well.

The ballpark is pretty basic, constructed entirely of aluminum, with a seated grandstand and small press box behind home plate. Bleachers stretch down either foul line about halfway to the foul poles. A FieldTurf surface bears the logos of both tenants, one in front of each dugout.

The scoreboard is large and old school. There is no video board and individual lights display all of the essential information. It’s a nice little field, just about right for collegiate summer ball. There are no frills and extras and, since I didn’t see a game, I can’t speak to concessions and the in-game presentation.

I have cause to visit the Springfield area on a fairly regular basis, so I hope to catch a game with either the summer team or the Bushnell team and update this page in the future. My thanks to the Jamie, the Bushnell coach, for allowing me to look around and for chatting with me ahead of a fall practice session with his team.
