Keesler Federal Park
Biloxi, MS
Review by Gary
Despite the game at Keesler Federal Park being rained out, we were lucky to be able to check out the Biloxi Shuckers’ handsome stadium on the Mississippi coast. Home of the Double-A Milwaukee Brewers Southern League affiliate since it opened in 2015, Keesler Federal offers 4,500 reserved seats and additional viewing options to bring the total capacity to just over 6,000.

There are two main entrances to the Shuckers’ estuary. Fans entering through the center field gate must immediately turn left to head to the seating area. Before making their way to the concourse level, spectators pass a wonderfully inviting Tiki Bar and beach playground filled with real sand and Adirondack chairs that rise above the right field wall. Since the left field wall runs along Caillavet Street, those who enter at the left field corner gate can only walk down the third base side to their seats.

On the first base line, fans choosing to stand at rails above the bowl seating can escape the sun (or rain, as the case may be) by standing under colorful umbrellas. The concourse offers an inviting variety of concession stands with nautical names such as the Shipwreck Grill, Catch of the Game and Lighthouse Pier, to name a few. While we could not sample any delights as the park was closing, there were many inviting options to whet one’s appetite. (BTW, for great seafood and a stunning view of the coast, check out Shaggy’s Beach Crab House just down the road!)

With the arrival of the former Huntsville Stars club, Biloxi welcomed its first professional baseball team to the area and renamed the organization in honor of the local mollusk-shucking industry. As of this writing, over eighty former Shuckers players have made it to the Major Leagues. Jackson Chourio (2023), Jacob Misiorowski (2023-2024), and Freddy Peralta (2017) have all been clad in the Biloxi Bivalves’ shell before making the migration north to Milwaukee.

Keesler Federal Park features kid-friendly attractions/distractions for those junior Clams who might be completely disinterested in baseball. From the Wiffleball Field adjacent to the park to the Splash Zone water park to the aforementioned beach above the right field wall, parents have a few “babysitting” choices while they take in the action at this attractive ballpark on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico.
