Triton Ballpark

Triton Ballpark is the home of the UC San Diego Tritons of the NCAA D1 Big West Conference. This 500-seat ballpark is nestled in the heart of La Jolla, with medical buildings and an elevated train trestle pressing in close beyond the outfield fence. Trees tower behind the grandstand with campus buildings behind them. It has a very SoCal urban vibe to it.
The grandstand is basic and nicely done, with all of the seating right around home plate, and a steep pitch so everyone has a good view. The seats are done in Triton blue and the press box at the back is painted in blue and yellow with “UC SAN DIEGO” spelled out in bold lettering. The field is also inscribed with the Trident Logo behind home plate and the team moniker on the baselines.
A classic scoreboard with individual innings in the line score is over in right-centerfield, also with the sharp looking Trident logo present. The grandstand doesn’t appear to have any concessions, but there is open space along the 3rd base line behind the dugout where a couple of food trucks were parked. There’s a nice-looking clubhouse building down in the rightfield corner. Another nice touch is the Greek god Triton holding his trident on the sides of the rows of seats.
This is a solid college ballpark with bonus points for representing the home team well and a nice positive feeling about the place. An extra half hot dog is awarded for the very friendly groundskeeper who not only invited me to explore at will, but also tipped me off to a ballgame out at Point Loma that I could just get to if I got a move on.
